Do you know the band/anyone who is affiliated/knows the band?
No, I do not. I’m in no way, shape or form in contact with anyone that personally knows the band.
Are you the band/[insert band member]?
No. I am not, by any means, the band or claim to be any of its members.
Does any of the band have social networking profiles?
Linde, Burton, Migé and Gas all have twitter accounts that are linked over in the Links section of the blog. However, I should say that Ville is not on any social networking site. That being said, if you’re talking to a “VIlle Valo”, you are talking to an impostor.
What is the meaning/story behind the heartagram?
The heartagram was created in 1996 by Ville on his birthday. He was quoted as to saying “For me, it’s like a new version of the yin-yang. The pentagram is not necessarily an evil sign, but in horror movies and the entertainment world it’s been interpreted as the sign of the devil. And the heart obviously represents something sweet and godly. Good and bad—it’s all about the balance.” The heartagram can mean whatever you want it to be, and that’s the beauty of the symbol — it’s up for ones own, personal interpretation.
Will you give me [insert band member]’s address?
No. Please respect the band’s privacy and know your limits.
Is [insert band member] married?
I’ve gotten so many questions on the relationship status of the members, so here it goes: Migé, Burton and Gas are married, and Linde is engaged to Toni Marie Iommi. Ville is the only one that is single.
Is the band satanic?
No, no one in the band is “satanic” or worships “satan”. Any references/jokes they may make are purely for shock value/humor.
What is the difference between the songs “stigmata” and “sigillium” diaboli?
The main difference is the name change — “stigmata” means mark and “sigillium” means seal; diaboli means “devil”. So there you have “mark/seal of the devil”. Stigmata Dialboli was the original track and re-recorded for the 666 Ways To Love EP and was also placed on some editions of Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666. Sigillum is the same song, but re-recorded with a much cleaner sound and placed on Razorblade Romance.
Where can I buy a copy of “Witches and Other Night Fears”?
No you cannot, seeing is that Ville is the sole owner of the early demo tape.
What is the meaning behind “page 43”?
It is believed to be based off of this image: http://goo.gl/0PfIO
The photo is of Evelyn McHale, a young woman who committed suicide soon after her would-be fiancé proposed to her. The photograph was featured in an issue of Life Magazine on page 43.
“On May Day, just after leaving her fiancé, 23-year-old Evelyn McHale wrote a note. ‘He is much better off without me … I wouldn’t make a good wife for anybody,’ … Then she crossed it out. She went to the observation platform of the Empire State Building. Through the mist she gazed at the street, 86 floors below. Then she jumped. In her desperate determination she leaped clear of the setbacks and hit a United Nations limousine parked at the curb. Across the street photography student Robert Wiles heard an explosive crash. Just four minutes after Evelyn McHale’s death Wiles got this picture of death’s violence and its composure.”
The imagery and the context of the photo do make some sense in terms of the song, and it could very well be what the lyrics is based off of. Valo has apparently “confirmed” it himself to a fan, but he’s never publicly came out and officially confirmed it in an interview.
